Fondazione Corriere della Sera proposes Graphic Novel, a retrospective of the graphic novels that have populated the pages of “la Lettura”, Corriere’s weekly supplement.
The show opens at Triennale di Milano and it runs until November 1, when it will be moved to the Contemporary Exhibition Hall of Iulm University (until December 23).
Graphic Novel moves to consider the relationship between words and images, and the balancing of graphics, expression and information in a synthesis that adapts to the physical space in the magazine.
Well beyond being simply “stories in sketches”, the show explores the possibilities of a language that manages to inform and amuse at the same time, merging the core mission of a broadsheet with the individual creativity of each artist. On the trail of such experiments, journalistic orthodoxies are challenged, and boundaries of conventional genres can blur. In other pages, fantasy and non-fiction can cohabit, and crime stories can become fairy tales, while the poetry of the lyrics interrogates morality. Drawings can equal photographic precision, but at the same time they discover unexpected ironies and surrealisms.
