The Guggenheim Intrapresæ Companies support the exhibition Josef Albers in Mexico, on view at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection from May 19 to September 3, 2018.
The main objective of this exhibition is illuminating the relationship between the art of Josef Albers and the forms and design of pre-Columbian monuments that he admired during his frequent visits to Mexican archaeological sites in the 1930s
The presentation features a selection of rarely shown early paintings and iconic canvases from Albers’s Homage to the Square (1950-1976) and Variant/Adobe series (1947-1952). It also includes a rich selection of photographs and photocollages, many of which have never been before on view, that will present you a new perspective on his most celebrated abstract works.
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is the second venue of the exhibition, after the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (November 3, 2017–April 4, 2018).
