Intrapresæ for the new Peggy Guggenheim Café

Intrapresæ for the new Peggy Guggenheim Café
20 giugno 2014

The completely renovated Museum Café of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection reopens its doors to welcome the visitors of the museum, and to offer a totally unique place to relax.
The Hangar Design Group studio rendered the plan and execution of the café’s redesign. The group wished to create a relaxing and contemporary space within the museum, all in keeping with and in memory of Peggy’s spirit. Also, the designers emphasized the natural light that penetrates the internal garden by creating a clean and simply structured space. The finely designed decorations, created by Arclinea, have been elegantly placed on the white backdrop of the wall, amplifying the nature light of the space.
Together with Hangar Design Group and Arclinea, Mapei and Hausbrandt made precious contributions to the renovation of the Peggy Guggenheim Café. Positioned at the center of the space is the “Peggy” chandelier, designed specifically for the space by Hangar Design Group, and created by Vistosi. The “Peggy” chandelier, hung in perfect equilibrium on a double axis, is composed of a series of glass and metal spheres, is microcosmal of the modern aura of the space, where light is the focal point. The fixture, which calls attention to the chromatic polarity of the black and white décor with ease, is both simple and elegant.
On the walls, large photographic portraits of Peggy offer the visitor an intimate look into both the great collector’s life and the space she called home from 1948 until her death in 1979. These photographs are a tribute to the charismatic and influential woman who so greatly influenced the history of twenthieth century art.
