An eventful June with exhibits at which the Pirelli Foundation is presenting a number of documents from the Pirelli Historical Archives.
The exhibition TECH STORIES. Politecnico di Milano 1863-2013 at the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan celebrates the 150th anniversary of Politecnico di Milano, Italian university which is the embodiment of excellence in innovation and technology. The exhibit, on display till December 10th, describes protagonists and relevant moments in the history of the Politecnico, which educated some of the most prominent Italian architects, engineers and business people, including Giovanni Battista Pirelli who, after graduating in 1869, started working in the rubber industry. ”L’impresa della gomma“ (The Enterprise of Rubber) is the title for the section dedicated to Pirelli, which features historical documents of the renowned tyre manufacturer, including catalogues and some famous Pirelli advertisements by Bob Noorda, Alessandro Mendini and Armando Testa.
”Rinascita. Storie dell’Italia che ce l’ha fatta“, on display till November 2nd at Palazzo Mazzetti (Asti), tells another story, that one of twenty years of Italian artistic and industrial production. It’s the story of the affirmation of original Italian products that have become global status symbols, such as Pirelli’s Cinturato tyres, describing the transformation of industry and lifestyle in Italy. From the Pirelli Historical Archives, company’s advertisements, photos of the Pirelli building (nicknamed Pirellone, literally ”Big Pirelli“), and issues of the historical Pirelli magazine, which was published from 1948 to 1972.
